Bucket and Tin Collections
A bucket collection is a simple and effective way to raise funds for Velindre Cancer Charity, and it’s a great way to meet people and talk about the charity.
Whether at a supermarket, garden centre, sports club, pub or shopping centre, a bucket collection is easy to organise and can raise lots of money.
All you need is permission from the venue or
*local authority, some buckets and some volunteers – although it can be done alone.
When recruiting volunteers, it’s worth asking people to spare an hour or two, rather than a whole day, as they are more likely to help
Draw up a rota and let volunteers choose the time that suits them best
We can provide you with charity branded buckets, t-shirts, stickers and Charity information flyers
Here are some useful tips to help ensure your collection is successful:
- Be approachable and enthusiastic – a friendly attitude makes a big difference
- Ensure you have Velindre Cancer Charity branded collection buckets with the correct seals, so people know what they are donating to and it’s legitimate.
- Have some key information about the charity to share with donors and encourage conversation. We can provide information flyers.
- Some donors will want to share their personal cancer with you – be prepared to listen.
- Have stickers to give donors – children especially love receiving a sticker and it shows they have donated. Stickers available from the charity.
- Ensure you have plans in place to count, store or transport the buckets and cash safely. Further details on counting cash is available in our fundraising pack, which will be shared with you when you register your fundraising with us.
*To hold a collection in a public area such as a town centre or a street, you must apply for a collection permit from the local authority. To apply, simply visit the council website, search collection permits or licences, and complete a short application form.
If you would like to undertake a bucket collection, or require buckets or collecting tins for an event, please complete this form.
