On Sunday, 17th August, under glorious sunshine, 330 cyclists came together for a powerful cause, cycling 50 miles from Cardiff City Stadium to Bracelet Bay, Swansea to raising over £48,000 for two of Wales’s largest cancer centres: Velindre Cancer Centre and Swansea Bay Health Charity’s South West Wales Cancer Centre.
Each rider dug deep, pushing through the miles with determination and heart, united by a shared mission to tackle cancer care across South and West Wales.
Led by Welsh rugby legend Jonathan ‘Jiffy’ Davies, the event holds deep personal significance. Jiffy’s wife received treatment at Velindre in 1996, and as a Swansea resident, South West Wales Cancer Centre is his local cancer facility. In 2020, Jiffy brought these two remarkable charities together for the first time, and since then, the event has gone from strength to strength, raising over £300,000 to help tackle cancer in our communities.

Jiffy shared,
“Both of these charities mean a lot to me. The support they offer to patients and families across Wales, including my late wife and many close friends, is truly exceptional. They fund care, services, and projects that provide comfort and hope when people need it most. We’re incredibly lucky to have them, and I’ll keep encouraging as many people as possible to get behind these amazing causes.”
The day was full of great weather, cheering and amazing people coming together in our mission to raise as much as possible for Velindre and Swansea. If you would like to donate and help us reach our fundraising target, click here.
Jiffy says, “We want to make this one of the biggest charity bike rides in Wales, but we need you to help us on that mission. This is an annual event, so put the 16th of August in your calendars next year!”

On the day Highlights
Group of 10 cyclist complete the ride in memory of Coweeta Pemberton
An inspiring team of 10 cyclists, including Coweeta Pemberton’s brother, close friends, and family, took on this year’s ride in heartfelt memory of Coweeta, who sadly passed away earlier this year. In a touching tribute, the group wore signature neon green socks representing his favourite colour, and his brother-in-law rode Coweeta’s own bike throughout the event. At the event, they shared stories of his strength, warmth, and spirit, while the entire family came together on the day to surround the team with love and support. It was a deeply moving moment for a truly special family.

Alun Wyn Jones takes on Jiffy’s 50
This year’s challenge was made even more unforgettable as Welsh rugby legend and former national captain Alun Wyn Jones joined us on the day!

Police escort finish
One of the standout moments of Jiffy’s 50 Cancer Challenge is the police-escorted finale, which allows all 330 riders to cross the finish line together as a united team. This powerful scene culminated in the group riding into Bracelet Bay as one, celebrating their shared achievement and the emotional triumph of completing the challenge.

Afterparty at the Lighthouse
Following the ride, the official afterparty held at The Lighthouse in Swansea, where riders, supporters, and volunteers came together to celebrate an unforgettable day. The evening featured fantastic live music, delicious food and drink from local vendors, and a vibrant atmosphere of joy and pride as everyone honoured the incredible achievements of the cyclists.
Thank you to the Lighthouse for their kind donation of £1 for every drink purchased!
